Media Savvy: Fact or Fiction? Smart Choices in a Changing Information Age

Birmingham Watch, the Alabama Initiative for Independent Journalism, and Alabama Humanities Foundation are joining forces to present two media literacy discussions about what people are consuming in today’s flood of information.

Discussions will center on how to tell the difference between journalism and propaganda, fact and fiction, real news and fake news.

The discussions are set for Sept. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and on Oct. 5 at 5:30 p.m. at Edge of Chaos at UAB. BCRI is located at 520 16th St. N., and Edge of Chaos is at 1700 University Blvd., Lister Hill Library, 4th Floor.

Dr. Chris Roberts of the University of Alabama Journalism Department will lead the programs, and reporters and editors will join the discussions.

Register now for the Sept. 28 session or the Oct. 5 session. They are free, but space is limited.
