Alabama native and president of the White House Historical Association Stewart McLaurin headlined the 2016 Alabama Humanities Foundation Awards Luncheon. Over 350 patrons of the humanities convened at The Club in Birmingham on October 24 to join AHF in honoring Ben and Luanne Russell with the Alabama Humanities Award, the Hill Crest Foundation with the Charitable Organization in the Humanities Award, and Nancy Grisham Anderson with the Wayne Greenhaw Service Award.

AHF also recognized the 2016 recipients of the Jenice Riley Memorial Scholarship— $1,000 awarded to K-6 educators in support of history and civics-related projects in their schools and classrooms. The 2016 recipients were: Lisa Compher of Central Elementary School in Rockford, AL—Coosa County; Yvonne Hare of North Highland Elementary School in Bessemer, AL—Jefferson County; Kim Hinds of Deer Valley Elementary School in Hoover, AL—Jefferson County; Lori Nelson of Roger B. Chaffee Elementary School in Huntsville, AL—Madison County; Harrow Strickland of Pick Elementary School in Auburn, AL—Lee County.

Thanks to all who attended and all who invest in delivering life-enriching humanities programming to communities across Alabama.
