Elaine was Professor Emerita of English and an award-winning scholar who taught 40 years on the faculty of her alma mater, the University of Montevallo.
She was known for her passion for liberal arts and served as a humanities scholar for AHF. She was board chair of AHF from 2005-2006.
In 2011, she received the Alabama Humanities Award, the organization’s highest honor.
“Elaine’s passing is a huge loss to the humanities community,” said AHF Executive Director Armand DeKeyser. “Her many good works as both scholar and as a board member and chair of AHF set a strong standard for others to follow, and we are a much better organization today because of her efforts.”
