Alabama History Day

It’s a joy to witness the excitement of students as they come together for History Day and share the knowledge they gained; and their creativity leaves me speechless year after year.

Exploring the past can transform young minds for a lifetime!

Alabama History Day fosters interdisciplinary academic programs focused on historical research, interpretation and creative expression for 6th- to 12th-grade students. By participating in AHD, students become writers, filmmakers, web designers, playwrights and artists as they create unique contemporary expressions of history. The experience culminates in a series of contests at the local level which progress to our state competition, traditionally held the last Friday in March.*  Winning competitors are eligible to move on to the National History Day competition held in Washington, D. C., each June!

*Competition will be held the first Friday in April when Good Friday conflicts with the March date.
