Presented by Richard Anderson, Ph.D., professor emeritus of English, Huntingdon College
Mary Ward Brown of Perry County is the Homer of the Black Belt. For three decades she has been publishing short stories, which are among the best written in the United States today. Yet she remains an underappreciated asset, not known by many Alabamans. This presentation is designed to inform general readers of her achievement and introduce them to her fiction. Approximately one hour in length, it encompasses biographical and literary background, commentary on selected stories, and opportunity for questions and group discussion.
If facilities allow, the presentation will be accompanied by a computer-fed digital slide show of illustrations. If appropriate to the audience and venue, the scholar may ask for a large-screen digital television receiver, or a projection screen for digital slide.
