The Birmingham Botanical Gardens held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, recognizing the time volunteers give toward the achievement of the educational mission of the Gardens.
Cathy Adams was honored with the Ida C. Burns Volunteer of the Year for continual service and significant impact on The Gardens. Ann Katholi was awarded the A. Brand Walton Jr. Unsung Hero of the Year for “behind the scenes” contributions. Birmingham Audubon Society was recognized as Partner of the Year. Betsy Fleenor was named Plant Person of the Year for sharing her plant knowledge with other volunteers. Sallie Lee was recognized as Educator of the Year for promoting appreciation of plants, gardens and the environment. Volunteers enjoyed a potluck luncheon and music by the Crestwood Trio.
A celebration with family and friends was held for Jared Andrew Miller, son of Horace and Crystal Miller of Birmingham, when he graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law Dec. 15. He was contributor and publicity editor for the Alabama Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Law Review and served as Ambassador for the Alabama School of Law.
Jimmy Anthony Levio and Carolyn Santoro Levio recently celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows at St. Peter the Apostle Church. They were given a celebration party by their children — Jasper and Debra Levio, Marie and Jim Shamray, and Cecilia and John Ritondo and Christina Levio. Taking part in the celebration were grandchildren, John, Justin, Jacob and Josh Ritondo and Matthew and Sarah Shamray. They were married Oct. 24, 1962, at St. Mark’s Church.
