Smithsonian exhibit opens Friday in Jasper

The opening reception for Water/Ways in Jasper will be Friday, Jan. 19, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bankhead House & Heritage Center. It was originally scheduled for Jan. 16, but postponed due to expected bad weather.

The Museum on Main Street exhibit, made possible through a partnership between the Smithsonian Institution and Alabama Humanities Foundation, is planned through Feb. 23 at the center. Hours are Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Admission is free.

Water/Ways examines water as an environmental necessity and a key element of history, culture and everyday life. Bankhead House & Heritage Center and Walker County Arts Alliance are co-hosting the exhibition, which will include emphasis on local waterways.

The exhibit has toured in Eufala, Decatur, Alexander City and Spanish Fort. Jasper is the next stop on the tour, and Selma is next.
